dissatisfied at quality of table finish

I just purchased this set less than 2 weeks ago and already have scratches on the table. I was writing on manila folders with a pen at the table and when I was finished, I noticed scrathes on the table surface. I was not using pressure when I wrote either. I am so disappointed that I purchased this set. I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about it. I wish I would have shopped around more before deciding on this set. I have done homework at many tables in my lifetime and never had scratches from writing with a pen or pencil. This is unacceptable. Oh yes, the set is made in China. What else is new? I also purchased the hutch that goes with the set. The glue that holds the glass in place can be seen on the outside on some of the sides. This set is not well made. It has an elegant look, but what good is a dining room table, when you cannot use it? The instructions that came with the table say not to put hot items on the table. Well when you eat, isn't your food usually hot at first? I haven't had guests over yet to dine at the table and wondering what a mess it's going to look like after I do? I wish I would have known that this table scratches so easily. I wouldn't have purchased it, believe me. By the way, I did not purchase the set from h-m shop.
